Building and Safety provides service to the public by verifying safe building design and construction through the enforcement of building codes and standards. The geographical areas applicable to this website include the Unicorporated County and 17 incorporated cities. New County Codes

The New 2008 County of Los Angeles Building codes are now effective. All permit applications filed after January 1, 2008 will be required to comply with the new codes.

The new codes are based on the following 2007 California State Codes:

  • Building Code
  • Electrical Code
  • Mechanical Code
  • Plumbing Code
  • Fire Code

Please note that elements of this site are in the process of being updated to match the new codes. We will be posting new information to this site as soon as it becomes available. Until that time please be advised that the information presented is only applicable to the previous codes and those projects that applied for permits prior to January 1, 2008.
